Pan-asian perfection at parea
In the heart of Alderley Edge sits one of our favourite drinking spots, Parea. If you’ve been living under a rock since 2018 and don’t know what I’m talking about then Parea is the lovechild restaurant of Chantelle Heskey and friends, James Golden and Peter Hunt. Parea is an extension of their glamorous, spontaneous and friendly personalities and is perfectly situated on London Road in Alderley Edge, which is THE ideal spot for some fizz, cocktails and some seriously tasty nibbles any day of the week.
Parea has an exquisite terrace in which is enclosed with gorgeous flower boxes. In the Summer, the flowers are the brightest happiest looking flowers I’ve ever seen. Almost as if this young dynamic team knows their crowd and today’s love for Instagram – because it’s bloody perfect for the ‘gram. Inside the glam continues to ooze from the twinkly light curtains (we all know I’m a sucker for something shiny) to the specially made Laurent-Perrier Pink bucket chairs in the restaurant upstairs, this place is ready to blow your socks off.
They host a variety of different evenings from Drag nights to Soul & Motown singers, they have something for everyone. We did visit Parea for it’s first birthday last year. They laid on quite the sushi spread; on an actual naked lady who was very calmly laying on the table! While she was gorgeous, I don’t think we quite shared the same enthusiasm as a lot of the other men that were there. Either way it was one of our highlights for 2019 and we’re still in contact with some of the people we met from that night so we’re looking forward to its 2nd Birthday Bash!
GO:PR hosted an influencer evening at Parea last week to showcase their food. I’m not going to lie, squealed a little when we got an invite.
Warm, Spicy and Saucy Edamame beans. I’m a huge fan of Edamame, but I’ve never actually tried any like Parea’s. I’m used to them being dry beans lovingly rubbed with chilli and salt. These were different. Different in a great way. They had a chilly sauce over them served warm. The beans fell out as soon as I popped the pod. Glorious.
I’m going to witter on about texture here again; Sadly I don’t have a huge appetite for dumplings as I don’t really like the feeling of them. I bit the bullet at Parea though and found myself pleasantly surprised. The Prawn and Pork Dumplings were light and fluffy and didn’t have the sticky weird texture I was oh so worried about. The Sushi tacos, however, were on a different level - stuffed to the top with salmon and tuna, held in place by an avocado salsa and truffle mayo with thoughtfully sprinkled Salmon Roe on top to help deliver, quite literally, a pop of extra flavour.
Onto something a little more hearty now; Lamb Penang curry and Beef Teriyaki. With melt in the mouth cubes of lamb in the most delicate penang I’ve tasted. Sadly again, I don’t eat a huge amount of lamb; Since a child I’ve always loved Mary had a little Lamb and can’t quite bring myself to eat it. I’m so glad I did at Parea though. The Beef Teriyaki, deliciously rich and deep with it’s flavours. I could of devoured the whole plate, and had seconds.. sadly, I had to share with the other foodies at the table. Don’t worry I made up for it on the next one…
Now, there’s not many times you’ll hear me say this, but I’ve become quite an expert and have developed a genuine love for Salt and Pepper chips. I’m still floored when people tell me they have never tried them or even heard of them (WTAF). Parea serve the perfect Salt and Pepper fries. Seasoned to literal perfection. As the other writers at the table enjoyed the conversation, Keeley and I sat making our way through the bowl; Soz, not soz guys! This magical blend of Salt and Peppery goodness can also be ordered on their Chicken Wings. If you do go to Parea for drinks you’ll see a lot of people ordering these tasty treats throughout the night as they are very popular.
Thank you to GO:PR for inviting us and thank you to Chantelle Heskey, James Golden and Peter Hunt for opening such a personal and inviting space. We love it and we’ll see you soon!
