TONGUE THAI'D

We were fortunate enough to be invited to Chilli Banana Thai Street Food in Bramhall to sample their new Sunday Curry Club menu … naturally we wanted everything on the menu so opted for more dishes, and my lord we were not let down.

It’s no secret that we’re big Chilli Banana fangirls. We’ve been to the Wilmslow branch quite a few times so when the CB team slid into our DMs, you should have heard our squeals of delight.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with huge smiles from Lucy and her team. The casual vibe suited us perfectly as dressing up was the last thing on our mind, especially since we were still feeling a little ropey from a few nights before (More about that here). Thankfully though, the Bramhall branch is the cooler, hipper sister to the other bananas.

With the new Sunday Curry Club you get the choice of; Gaeng Keo Wan (Thai Green Curry), Gaeng Ped (Thai Red Curry), Penang or Massaman curry, with a rice accompaniment and either a beer or wine. For £10.95. Yes, that’s correct. Ten. Ninety. Five. Under 11 English pounds. And for an authentic, home cooked Thai Meal. We were told that the Street food branch of Chilli Banana is the only restaurant to prepare absolutely everything fresh in house street food style. When the food came out, there was no doubt in my mind; we could taste the freshness.

We opted for (are you ready for our slightly embarrassingly large list?):

·     Satay Hey (Mushroom Satay)

·     Pla Meuk Tod Glua (Tempura Squid)

·     Pla Gung (King Prawn salad with Pineapple)

·     Tom Ka (Coconut soup)

·     Penang (With beef)

·     Massaman (With Chicken)

·     Two Singha Beer

·     And finally, two portions of Jasmine rice.. because apparently we can’t help ourselves..

We had everything bought out at the same time (for the gram, obviously). We we’re like children in a candy shop. A bit of this, a bit of that.. and a bit more of this... Each dish phenomenal, vibrant and fresh. We could taste all of the ingredients. From the rich kaffir lime leaf in the Penang curry, the fluffy tempura batter, to the fragrant jasmine rice.

All of the dishes were bursting with flavour, however, particular stand outs were the Tom Ka, Tempura Squid, and Massaman curry. I would go as far as saying this is close to the best curry I’ve ever had. Absoulutely superb! All of this was washed down with a gloriously cold Singha beer. The perfect end to a fantastic weekend.
