Ringing the Bells for the Relaunch

The Bells of Peover | Knutsford

Ringing the bells for the relaunch of The Bells of Peover. New team, same incredible food.

For those of you who may not be aware, The Bells of Peover is a 15th Century Pub hidden in the idyllic Cheshire Village of Lower Peover.

Steeped in history this is a place that oozes charm and will steal hearts from its cobbled entranceway and ancient wisteria tree.

Outside you'll find a large, lush, terrace area. Fit with outdoor bar, full kitchen, grill & wood-fired pizza oven. We hear plans of family-style BBQs, pizza nights-a-plenty and apparently September Summer nights; who knew?

Owners Ian, Mariam, Phil & Chloe have all worked in various positions through the years. They all have a wealth of industry knowledge and have worked with some big hitters in the City centre (Rosso & 20 Stories.. but we're not here to name drop...).

Acclaimed Chef Adie Munt makes his return to The Bells with his seasonally inspired menu. A more refined gastropub, leaning into finer dining is where we'd place them. Adie and his team are back with awards and accolades in their eyesight. If last night’s taster was anything to go by, they won't have a problem achieving them.

Before starters we recieved the chefs complimentary bread. Sunblush wheel and homemade butter; Sunblushed & Curried butter. I will only be eating Curried butter on toast in the mornings from now on. Thank you very much.

For starters we had White Crab & Squid Ink Ravioli, served in a punchy lemon butter sauce. I had the Crispy Pigs Cheek with caramelised apple sauce, celeriac remoulade, and pork quaver — Loved the Pork cheek, just wish it was bigger so I could carry on eating it all night!

For mains I took a new approach; The Halibut with watercress sauce caught my eye. Served with crushed hazelnuts and tempura courgette flower. I've never really seen halibut with hazelnuts together, but it worked so well. The hazelnuts added a great crunch alongside the delicate tempura! I'd happily eat this one over and over. Jamie's eyes lit up when he spotted the Trio of Lamb rump. Crispy belly, Mini shepherd's pie(which apparently should be a dish by itself), pea puree, and rich lamb jus. Served perfectly pink. 10/10.

On the dessert menu, we found familiar favourites; Sticky Toffee Pudding with date puree, butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. **Chefs kiss** Light and airy while still retaining its gooey goodness. Rich Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake served with mocha ice cream. A little rich for my taste but Jamie (who loves dark chocolate) wolfed the whole thing in record time (don't tell him I told you that though).

We're really happy to see life back at The Bells. It truly is a remarkable place and it deserves to be celebrated - we're just glad to be a part of it.

As mentioned before, the menus are seasonally led, so may be subject to change from our write-up - hop over to their website for menus and bookings.
