1539 Reasons Why We Love Chester
Proudly placed within the walls of The Chester Racecourse, you’ll find the award-winning Restaurant 1539. Named after the year racing first began in Chester, this spectacular restaurant offers seasonally led menus, with twists on British classics using international flavours.
Restaurant 1539 has been widely visited on race days… While dinner here on race day is something to behold, it’s so much more than that. Chester racecourse is the WORLDS oldest racecourse. Not just Cheshires, the WORLD! If you can have a Saturday night drink or a midweek treat overlooking this historical landmark, why wouldn’t you?
We were invited by Samantha Haylor on behalf of Restaurant 1539 to take a look at the Botanical Rooftop terrace and to sample their newly released Afternoon tea. Who are we to turn down an invite like that?
The recently renovated rooftop terrace is nothing short of spectacular. Its botanical opulence is truly magical and is fit for all occasions. Open all year round, and this shows topping venue is available for private dining, parties, events or drinks draped in glamour!
After our private tour from the charming GM Andrew, he excitedly sat us all down, ready to sabre the top off of our Champagne! Camera’s at the ready! I can’t say this is included as standard, but for a special occasion, it’s definitely worth asking for the extra theatrics!
Once shown to our seats, we had to pick our choice of tea to accompany our Afternoon treats. A fantastic selection of teas is provided by QuinTEAssential (we love a pun too). Fabulously fragrant, decisions were tough. We finally decided on Caramel and Mint, Tales of the Orient & Breakfast Tea. Great choices all around.
Award Winning Head Chef Richard Bruce and his team have created an Afternoon Tea that even the pickiest of friends will enjoy - Starting with a Brambleberry Macaron Amuse Bouche! Filled with Crème de cassis ganache, white chocolate, thyme! I’ll take 10 of those, please! Now, we’re all friends at the table… but I won’t lie, I could feel a territorial fear fall over me; No-one is going near that Chocolate torte but me!! Full Afternoon tea menu here.

Afternoon Tea is available Fridays & Saturdays between 12 pm and 4 pm, and you can choose from one of the 4 Packages below:
Traditional afternoon Tea – £27
Decadent Afternoon Tea – served with a signature gin cocktail – £35
Champagne Afternoon Tea – Served with a glass of Laurent Perrier La Cuvee Brut – £40
Rose Champagne Afternoon Tea – Served with a glass of Laurent Perrier Rose – £45
