Crouching Tiger Prawns, Hidden Sushi

If you haven’t already heard of The Copper Room in Macclesfield, number one, you clearly didn’t read our last article (click here), and number two, you’re missing out. Husband & wife team Amy & Rick opened up shop last year through a Kickstarter campaign and have busted open the doors for Macclesfield’s culinary scene. To add more choice dimensions to their already fabulous menu they have decided to open their doors to allow other small businesses to collaborate with them.

Sushi Night at The Copper Room was born!

We’re told sushi making is an art form that takes years to master. Somewhere around 30 years of sushi-making before you can even think about calling yourself a master. Close to being able to call herself a Sushi Master, we met Sushi Artist and Business owner Ayumi of Japanese Kitchen and I have to say; it’s love at first sight! She’s beautiful, talented and above all, a really lovely person.

By day, Ayumi sets herself up in Cheshire Fish in Macclesfield providing takeaway sushi. Platters for bigger parties (If I don’t get an invite to a party catered by Ayumi, I’ll be offended) and smaller takeaways for lucky lunchers in Macclesfield. You’ll have to follow her on Instagram to keep up with her creations!

You’ll start with round one of small plates from The Copper Kitchen, including; Scallop Sashimi, Miso Cod, Sweet Chilli King Prawns, Karaage (Japanese fried Chicken), Gyoza and Calamari with sesame sauce.

Naturally, we devoured every shred of food. It was absolutely sensational. The Copper Room Kitchen definitely did Amy & Rick proud. Shortly after, you’ll receive your Sushi platter, lovingly prepared by Ayumi. An assortment of absolute delights. Crunchy rolls, nigiri, inside out rolls… So much sushi! You won’t be leaving here hungry, that’s for sure!

Congratulations if you made your way through the whole platter. Your reward? Dezato - A bowl of fresh Matcha Icecream, with Pistachio crumb and bean paste! Silky soft and surprisingly sweet. I’m not a huge fan of matcha because it can be quite bitter so you can imagine my surprise when I polished the bowl off…

We were blown away by the service, food and presentation of the evening. An exceptional night by all accounts. We’ll be going back for seconds, that’s for sure.
