Drumming to a Table Near You

With Autumn flying by and winter fast approaching, you may have seen our visit to the Drum and Monkey to shoot their menu last week. We were invited back in later that evening to get our chops around their new delights.

We’re no strangers to The Drum and Monkey, and we hope you’re not too. They are the most welcoming people and love nothing more than feeding you up (Thanks Nic!).

If candle lights, wood-burning fires, hygge hideouts and elevated pub foods are your thing, then the drum is for you.

On this year’s autumn/winter menu, you’ll find Winter warmers, bangin’ bangers and a knockout Gnocci this time around.

To start we had the Pil Pil king prawns and the tempura vegetables. The King prawns were actual king prawns. They were big, meaty and carried a royal chilli kick. The tempura vegetables managed to hold their crunch inside of the light, crisp batter. Not sure if it was intended, but they are the perfect finger food. Use as vessels to scoop up the tangy sweet corn salsa.

For the main event, we both took on two giant bowls of pure comfort. Truffle Gnocchi for Jamie and the Salmon for me. Gnocci is fast becoming one of Jamie’s most beloved foods. The drum did not disappoint. Heaps of Gnocci, a medley of mushrooms, some extra parmesan and a healthy glug of truffle oil. A truffley triumph in our eyes.

For me, it was all about the Salmon. Pan-fried, still with crispy skin, this flakey salmon is perched on a potato cake and has a pea, leek and white wine sauce moat surrounding it. The salmon glistened under our lights waiting for me to devour it. So, devour I did.

Thought we were done? Nono.. puddings next.

Since the mornings shoot, I only had one thing on my mind and that was the Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake with honeycomb Icecream. I can tell you it was WELL worth the extra calories. I savoured each and every mouthful.

Jamie went old school… like primary school, old school with The Drums Roly-Poly Pudding. Clearly, a very happy nostalgia washed over Jamie as he sat gleefully mixing the jam in with the custard!

As always, we loved our visit to The Drum and Monkey. Their food never disappoints and we can always guarantee a good time when we take a trip to see them.
