Ice Cream so good, it'll moooo...ve you to tears!

After many years of eating, and after even more years of judging, I like to think we know good food. We’ve seen historical mansions serving the finest seafood. An old mill that has best-hidden burger bar we’ve ever walked into! But we’ve never seen a micro-dairy making its own Ice cream like this.

The Mobberley Ice Cream Company have set up shop (NOT VAN) at Greenoaks Farm. It’s a beautiful family-run micro-dairy producing the creamiest, milkiest ice cream I’ve ever tasted – being from Cornwall, I’ve tasted a lot of the stuff. Greenoaks farm is family owned but isn’t quite your typical family; here you’ll find their pet pig Ginger happily grunting and greeting, their free-range chickens clucking, cats hiding in hay bales and of course cows. So many beautiful cows. The cows are named and loved for just as much as their domestic pets. Below, our beautiful model Bella.

The Mobberley Ice Cream Company is owned by Brian and Deborah Brereton. After finding success and passion in their previous venture, Bollington Ice Cream Company this husband and wife duo have relocated and started over – Selfishly this is great for us as it’s just around the corner.

We absolutely LOVE the passion and creativity that pours from Brian & Deborah. They coo over the gorgeous herd of Jersey cows that produce their milk. If you weren’t already aware, Jersey cows are difficult to come by and are famous for their high quality and rich milk. It’s naturally high in butterfat too. Jersey cows are used with Swiss cows to make this ice cream truly unique.

Each Batch of ice cream takes 3 days to make. Day 1, the ice cream base is cooked. Yes, cooked! Day 2 is churn and package day. Is then frozen for 24 hours to be ready for you on day 3. This means that when you visit Greenoaks farm to pick up your Ice cream, your favourite flavour might not always be available. Chilly Wonka aka Brian, doesn’t quite have a gang of Oompa Loompas helping him just yet. You can order in advance to make sure the flavour you want is ready for you, or alternatively try something new. New and unique flavours are something these pair specialise in.

Taking classics and favourites and turning them on their head in the most elegant and sophisticated way. Some combinations may leave you scratching your head – Goats Cheese & Cherry or Chardonnay & Chamomile – But my god, when you taste them you’ll feel bad for ever doubting their genius.

Much like Augustus Galoop, we left Mobberley Ice Cream & Greenoaks farm with an armful of new ice cream to taste. As always, we couldn’t decide on just one, so we tried a few - Sticky Toffee Pudding, Milkiest Milk Chocolate, Brian’s Irish Cream and my new personal favourite, EVER; Bourbon Butter Pecan. Jamie is still in the doghouse for finishing that one without my permission.

The Mobberley Ice Cream Company at Greenoaks farm are an absolute delight. You absolutely have to visit them. During the difficult times that we currently face, their ice cream will bring some true joy.. If that doesn’t bring you joy then go and scratch Ginger the Pig. She’s got joy by the bucketload.

Brian & Deborah would love to invite you to browse their online shop. I bet you end up with a basket full of goodies, just like us!

You can find The Mobberley Ice Cream Co, along with hundreds of other Cheshire based restaurants on our Food Discovery and Local Loyalty APP.
