Peak inside the Peaky Blinders inspired Restaurant and Hotel

The King William in Wilmslow has been blessed with a glow up like no other.

Three months ago, you would have called The King William a “traditional” pub. Carpeted throughout in true British Pub style. We’ve lived in Wilmslow for five years now, and I think I’ve seen perhaps seven people go in there. That’s not to say it wasn’t a brilliant spot for a couple of drinks – so I hear?

The King William on Manchester Road has had more than £300,000 spent on extensive renovations to create a contemporary tavern style pub which now includes a stylish boutique hotel. A place you would be comfortable and proud to recommend to visiting family and friends.

The pub was taken over three months ago by the team behind the highly successful Drum & Monkey in Alderley Edge.

Since then it’s undergone total remodeling including the addition of the part-covered heated terrace for up to 85 on previously unused space. It will seat a further 85 inside in the bar and restaurant area which has been fitted out with herringbone parquet flooring, dark wood paneling and warm neutral paintwork.

Obvious nods to their inspiration, Peaky Blinders, can be found throughout; vintage books and trinkets, and some very unique lamps with bowler hats. The bar area has ample space for any functions you can think of. They have Large tables, small tables, barrel tables.. and private tables. Well, semi-private. There’s even a taproom that provides additional privacy for small – medium-sized groups. The perfect size to make sure no one from your work night out feels left out of the conversation!

Upstairs you’ll find a mixture of double and twin rooms. All with En-suite, a TV, space to hang your clothes and a place to rest your head! Carrying the theme from downstairs, the rooms feature a collection of vintage curiosities. We’re feeling cigar and brandy vibes (although important to note, you can’t smoke a cigar in the rooms… but can have a brandy!).

A new head chef has been brought in to create a menu of British small plates which will be served alongside more classic traditional pub dishes, Sunday roasts and a kids menu.

Management team Lee Webster and Nikki Windsor say they hope to replicate the winning formula they’ve introduced at the Drum & Monkey in Alderley Edge to bring something new and exciting to the Wilmslow pub scene.

“Since we took on the Drum two years ago we’ve turned it around and it’s become a very popular prestigious destination,” he said.

“We want to bring that blueprint here so we offer people somewhere that not only looks great, but it has the same high level of customer service, an imaginative, quality food menu as well as a really good selection of wines and craft beers.

“It was also important to be able to add the outdoor space because that’s something which has become a priority for a lot of customers especially over the past year. People appreciate having that option, and we wanted to make sure it was part-covered and heated because obviously we have to factor in the unpredictability of the British weather.”

Lee said having head chef Phil Akhed join the King William team was another major element in its relaunch.

“Phil has worked at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium and spent over 10 years at the Bistro West 156 in West Didsbury so he’s got plenty of experience and ideas which we know our customers are going to really enjoy.”
